Now Live: The Zombie for Vaesen
This month, we've been exploring the zombie. You can check out the full series here. Last week, we focused on exploring the zombie in Dungeons & Dragons, and found the creature as written to be pretty good for our zombie-as-oppressive-capitalism metaphor. This week, I'm thrilled to present my newest product, an adaptation of the mode of zombie we've been exploring, which is available on DriveThruRPG.
There is no game better for exploring the horrors of unchecked industrialization than Vaesen, a game where the impact of 18th and 19th century capitalism is baked into the game's character. So, after my two articles focusing on this version of the zombie--and particularly last week, where I bemoaned the lack of support for running zombies with the particular allegory I've been supporting in this series--I decided to write a zombie creature for Vaesen.
Particularly, I'm intending this creature to be used alongside the Vaesen rules supplement, Mythic Britain and Ireland, because I'm focusing on the Caribbean, colonial version of the zombie. As I said in the first post of the series, there's plenty of other depictions of the undead, including a long Nordic tradition around the draugr – and this series isn't delving into that. So, with my focus squarely pointed on colonialism and imperialism, of the Free League official settings for Vaesen, that felt most applicable to Britain. However, you can definitely use it with minor tweaks to the scenarios in any country.
With that out of the way, I encourage you all to check out my newest product release instead. You can download The Zombie for Vaesen exclusively on DriveThruRPG, through the Free League Community Content program. The product is Pay-What-You-Want, but any amount you're willing to pay is hugely appreciated – your purchases support the upkeep of the site and allow me to continue writing free articles every week.
And that's it for the October series on zombies! Happy Halloween, everyone!
